Call of Duty is preparing for another major release Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 arrives worldwide on October 23, 2026. Developed as the next chapter following Modern Warfare III, the game is bringing back Captain Price while introducing a new conflict centered on the Korean Peninsula. It will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC through Steam and Battle.net, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

The upcoming title is shaping up as one of the biggest releases in the gaming calendar, combining a story-driven campaign with multiplayer and the return of the DMZ extraction experience. Activision has also been highlighting new technology designed to make the game’s weapons, movement, audio and combat feel more precise.

A New War Erupts on the Korean Peninsula

The campaign begins with a major geopolitical crisis. According to the official storyline, North Korea launches a full-scale invasion of South Korea, forcing South Korean forces into a desperate fight while a separate storyline follows Captain Price operating outside the military system.

The campaign will move across several locations and styles of combat. Players will experience trench warfare in Korea, close-quarters fighting in New York, high-speed sequences in Paris, SAS night operations in Mumbai and large-scale assaults aimed at reclaiming occupied territory.

The story also introduces an unknown weapon that could dramatically alter the balance of power. Price’s unofficial operations eventually become connected to the wider conflict, bringing the different parts of the story together.

Captain Price Returns

Captain Price remains at the centre of the Modern Warfare storyline, but his position has changed dramatically.

Following the events of Modern Warfare III, Price is operating outside the official system. The latest campaign material shows him pursuing his own mission while being hunted by former allies and attempting to uncover a wider threat.

The campaign will also introduce a young South Korean soldier, Private Park Hyun Jun, and his squad. Their perspective provides a different view of the invasion and places players directly on the front lines of the conflict.

Campaign Early Access Begins Before Launch

Players who digitally preorder or prepurchase Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will receive early access to the full campaign beginning October 16, one week before the worldwide launch. The early-access benefit is available with digital editions across supported platforms.

This gives players the opportunity to experience the campaign before the official October 23 release, while multiplayer and other launch content arrive as part of the full release.

Multiplayer Brings 12 New Maps

Multiplayer is another major component of Modern Warfare 4. The game will launch with 12 new 6v6 maps, with locations designed around different environments and combat situations.

The official game description emphasizes grounded and precise gunplay combined with fluid movement. Alongside traditional 6v6 battles, larger-scale maps will feature both vehicles and infantry combat, expanding the multiplayer experience beyond smaller arenas.

The game is also introducing what Activision calls Ballistic Authority, a technology system focused on weapon handling, aiming, visibility, audio and battlefield perception. The goal is to make weapon behaviour and combat feedback more consistent and responsive.

DMZ Returns With an Extraction Focus

Modern Warfare 4 will also feature DMZ, an extraction-based mode in which players enter contested areas, collect equipment and attempt to escape successfully.

The mode is designed around risk and reward. Players can deploy alone or with a squad, complete objectives, collect valuable technology and decide when to leave the battlefield.

The official description presents DMZ as a living combat sandbox in which every deployment can develop differently depending on the player’s choices and encounters.

PC Players Get New Technical Features

Activision has also released detailed PC information ahead of launch. The PC version will be available through Steam and Battle.net, while Xbox players can access the game through Xbox on PC.

The PC version supports advanced display and graphical features, while Activision has also confirmed security requirements including TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot. The publisher says additional security measures may also be enforced.

Modern Warfare 4 will use texture streaming across its game modes. Activision says a continuous internet connection is required for multiplayer and DMZ, including private multiplayer matches.

Preorders Include Additional Rewards

Players who preorder or prepurchase a digital edition receive several bonuses, including the Hunter Killer Operator Skin, the Gilded Pearl Camo Pack and campaign early access.

The more expensive Vault Edition adds additional content, including a BlackCell Battle Pass for one season, a Signature Weapon Collection, operator packs and a DMZ Deployment Bonus.

Activision is also offering a loyalty discount on the digital Vault Edition to eligible players who previously owned and played qualifying Call of Duty titles.

October Could Be a Major Month for Call of Duty Fans

With the campaign arriving in early access on October 16 and the complete game launching on October 23, Modern Warfare 4 is entering its final stage of promotion.

The game combines the return of Captain Price, a new international conflict, 12 new multiplayer maps, the DMZ extraction experience and a technology-focused approach to gunplay.

With its October 23 release date approaching, the next few weeks will reveal more about the game’s multiplayer systems, launch content and how the new Modern Warfare storyline develops.
