October is shaping up to be one of the busiest months of 2026 for gamers, with several major releases arriving across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. Among the biggest highlights are Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse on October 15, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on October 23 and Phantom Blade Zero on October 29.

The three games represent very different sides of the gaming industry. Castlevania brings a new exploration-focused 2D action adventure, Modern Warfare 4 delivers a large-scale military shooter with a major campaign and multiplayer component, while Phantom Blade Zero is preparing to bring fast-paced wuxia-inspired action to PS5 and PC.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse Arrives October 15

Konami’s Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is scheduled to launch on October 15, bringing a new chapter to the long-running gothic franchise. The game is an exploration-driven 2D action adventure set in 1499 Paris.

Players take control of Rose Belmont, the daughter of Trevor Belmont, as she battles through underground catacombs and the dark halls of Dracula’s castle. Konami has described the game as a new exploration-based adventure featuring combat, exploration, bosses and the series’ trademark gothic atmosphere.

The game is particularly notable because it combines a new storyline with the visual and gameplay traditions that have defined Castlevania for decades. Players can expect interconnected environments, enemies, bosses and exploration-based progression.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is scheduled for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and Steam, giving both console and PC players access to the new adventure.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Takes Over October

The biggest mainstream release of the month could be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which officially launches on October 23.

Developed by Infinity Ward, the game moves the Modern Warfare storyline into a new international conflict. The campaign begins with a full-scale invasion of South Korea, while Captain Price conducts a separate mission from the shadows. Eventually, the two storylines collide as the conflict expands.

The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. PC players will be able to access it through Steam, Battle.net and Xbox on PC.

Modern Warfare 4 is also expected to be a major multiplayer release, with traditional 6v6 combat alongside larger-scale battles. The game is designed around fast and precise gunplay while expanding the scope of its multiplayer experience.

Modern Warfare 4 Campaign Can Be Played Early

Call of Duty fans who digitally preorder or pre-purchase the game will receive an additional advantage.

Campaign Early Access begins October 16, one week before the official October 23 launch. The benefit applies to digital pre-orders and pre-purchases of the Standard Digital and Vault Editions on supported platforms.

This gives players the opportunity to experience the campaign before the full game becomes available worldwide.

The campaign itself is expected to be one of the game’s major attractions, particularly because it brings Captain Price back into a new conflict while introducing a young squad of South Korean soldiers fighting on the front lines.

Phantom Blade Zero Arrives October 29

Closing out the month is Phantom Blade Zero, one of the most anticipated action games of October.

Developed by S-GAME, the game is scheduled to release on October 29 for PS5 and PC. PlayStation describes it as a stylish action game inspired by the golden age of wuxia cinema, combining fast sword combat with a dark martial-arts world.

Players take control of Soul, a skilled fighter who has only 66 days to live. His mission is to uncover the conspiracy surrounding the death of his master while navigating a dangerous world filled with powerful enemies and rival factions.

The combat is one of the game’s biggest attractions. Players can use different weapons and customise their combat setup, while the game’s fast movement and cinematic attacks are designed to make battles feel highly dynamic.

A Wuxia World Built Around Fast Combat

Phantom Blade Zero stands out from the other major October releases because of its distinctive setting.

Rather than using a conventional medieval fantasy or modern military setting, the game draws heavily from Chinese wuxia, a genre built around martial artists, swordplay, honour, rival factions and extraordinary combat abilities.

The game’s developers have also highlighted the involvement of Donnie Yen, whose experience in martial arts cinema has contributed to the game’s combat and presentation. PlayStation’s State of Play coverage has provided additional information about weapons, difficulty options, side quests and the wider Wulin world.

Three Very Different Gaming Experiences

The October lineup is particularly interesting because these three major releases appeal to very different audiences.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse focuses on exploration, gothic environments and 2D action. Modern Warfare 4 is built around military combat, cinematic storytelling and competitive multiplayer. Phantom Blade Zero takes a more stylised approach, combining high-speed sword fighting with a dark wuxia setting.

That variety means October is not dominated by a single genre. Players can choose between classic-inspired action, blockbuster shooting and cinematic martial-arts combat.

October Is Packed Beyond These Three Games

The month contains many other major releases as well. Current October release calendars include Gears of War: E-Day, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival, Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, Final Fantasy Resonance and Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, among others.

This makes October particularly crowded for players with limited time and budgets.

The concentration of major releases also means developers will be competing for attention at the same time. Multiplayer games such as Modern Warfare 4 will have to compete for players, while single-player games such as Phantom Blade Zero and Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse will be competing for gamers’ purchase decisions.

Why October Could Become a Major Gaming Month

The combination of established franchises and new high-profile games makes October one of the strongest periods of the 2026 gaming calendar.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse arrives in the middle of the month, Modern Warfare 4 follows with one of the year’s biggest blockbuster launches, and Phantom Blade Zero closes the month with a highly anticipated new action experience.

For gamers, the schedule means there is something significant arriving almost every week. For publishers, however, it creates a highly competitive release environment in which games must stand out quickly.

With Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse on October 15, Modern Warfare 4 on October 23 and Phantom Blade Zero on October 29, October 2026 is set to deliver one of the year’s most concentrated runs of major gaming releases.
