India’s esports campaign at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, has entered a major new phase as the country’s eFootball representatives take to the virtual football field. Danial Patel and Chinmay Sahoo are representing India in the eFootball event, with their Group F campaign beginning on September 22. Their opening match is against Uzbekistan, followed later in the day by another group-stage fixture against Mongolia.

The eFootball competition is part of the esports programme at this year’s Asian Games, giving Indian esports another opportunity to compete on one of Asia’s biggest sporting stages.
Danial Patel and Chinmay Sahoo Lead India’s eFootball Entry
India’s eFootball squad consists of Danial Patel and Chinmay Sahoo, who were selected to represent the country in the football title. Their participation is particularly significant because Patel arrives at the Asian Games after a major international achievement with India earlier this year.
Patel was part of the Indian duo that won the inaugural FIFAe Continental Championship Asia 2026 featuring eFootball Mobile in August. India defeated Japan 1-0 on aggregate in the final, with Patel and Mujtaba Husaini representing the country. The victory also secured India’s third consecutive qualification for the FIFAe World Cup.
That recent international success has added considerable attention to India’s Asian Games eFootball campaign, although the Asian Games competition presents a different tournament environment and a new challenge.
India vs Uzbekistan Opens the Campaign
India’s first Group F match is scheduled against Uzbekistan at 5:30 AM IST on September 22. The match is being played at Aichi Sky Expo Hall B-F in Tokoname.
The group-stage schedule gives India another opportunity later in the day. Patel and Sahoo are scheduled to face Mongolia at 2:00 PM IST, meaning the Indian pair could play two important matches on the opening day of their campaign.
The results of these group matches will determine India’s position in the competition and its route toward the knockout stages.
India Enters the Asian Games With Strong Recent eFootball Form
The Asian Games appearance comes at an important time for Indian eFootball.
In August, India’s national eFootball team produced one of its biggest international results by winning the inaugural FIFAe Continental Championship Asia featuring eFootball Mobile. Patel and Mujtaba Husaini defeated Japan in a closely contested final, winning the first game 1-0 before playing out a goalless second leg to secure a 1-0 aggregate victory.
India had earlier defeated Thailand in the semi-final and secured a place in the championship match. The team also recorded victories against Japan and Uzbekistan during the group stage of that competition.
The result demonstrated India’s ability to compete against established Asian esports nations and gave the country’s eFootball scene a significant international boost.
Esports Gets a Bigger Asian Games Platform
The 2026 Asian Games feature 43 sports and 469 medal events, with esports included among the competitions taking place in Aichi-Nagoya. India is participating in multiple esports titles, including eFootball, League of Legends, Pokémon Unite and Puyo Puyo Champions.
India’s eFootball representatives are therefore part of a wider national esports contingent rather than participating in isolation.
The Indian esports roster for the Games includes 15 athletes across four titles, according to the published Indian contingent lists. Alongside Patel and Sahoo in eFootball, Indian players are competing in League of Legends, Pokémon Unite and Puyo Puyo Champions.
Why the Asian Games Matter for Indian Esports
The Asian Games provide a different platform from commercial esports tournaments because athletes compete under national representation.
For Indian esports, participation in Aichi-Nagoya offers greater exposure to mainstream sports audiences and places competitive gaming alongside established Asian Games disciplines.
The country’s recent eFootball success also means expectations around the team are higher. Patel’s continental championship victory has provided a strong recent reference point, while Sahoo joins him as India’s second player in the Asian Games eFootball entry.
However, tournament conditions, opponents and match formats can vary significantly between competitions, making the Asian Games campaign a fresh test.
India’s eFootball Campaign Could Become a Major Esports Story
With two Group F matches scheduled on September 22, India’s eFootball campaign gets underway alongside several other major Asian Games events.
The opening fixture against Uzbekistan is scheduled for 5:30 AM IST, followed by the Mongolia match at 2:00 PM IST.
For Danial Patel and Chinmay Sahoo, the immediate objective is to navigate the group stage and progress further into the competition. For Indian esports more broadly, the Asian Games provide another major international stage after India’s continental eFootball title in August.
With the country’s eFootball team entering the tournament on the back of recent international success, all eyes are now on how Patel and Sahoo perform when India’s Asian Games esports campaign takes centre stage.
